The Signature Article on Girl Scouts

On November 19, 2005 Bobie's Troop, Brownie Troop # 29 Overseas, joined the the rest of the Overseas Girl Scout troops in Sigonella, Sicily, in a community service project. (Bobie is at the top left of the photo.) Everyone met at 0900 at the base chapel. We were broken up in 6 groups and assigned specific tasks within our clean-up zone. Our first task was to wash the chapel windows...streak free! Bobie was such a good washer and wiper. The parents in our group (including myself) did the top half of windows because they were hard to reach and the girls cleaned the bottom half. Okay readers, I guess Ihave to admit that I too ended up cleaning the bottom half since I was too short to reach the top half! We then cleaned the chapel courtyard and picked up any litter found in the surrounding parking lot in our zone. We picked up cigarettte butts! YUK!!! No worries, we all had gloves on. Annabelle, one of the Daisies in our group exclaimed, "Disgusting!!! I would never ever smoke cigarettes because it can kill you." Bobie then said, "Disgusting!!! People who smoke cigarettes are not very smart, are they Mom?" I responded, "That's not necessarily true, they may be smart people who made a bad choice to smoke." The best part of our clean-up project was when Bobie and I found $20.00 on the ground. Our group donated the money to the Sigonella Girl Scout Fund. Bobie and I were very glad to have participated in this day of community service. After the service project, Bobie and I talked about why we participated and why the Girl Scouts organized the community service. Although she couldn't deny how fun it was to squirt water, race to clean, and find $20, I was surprised at how in-depth her response was in that she was able to express her concept of the importance of "service." She expressed how it made her feel and how service brings forth blessings from God. For Bobie and I, the blessings come in the most wonderful forms: 1) STRENGTH in our relationship as mother and daughter, 2) APPRECIATION in what we have, 3) APPLICATION of our God given talents and most of all...it makes us feel nice and warm inside! In James 2:20 the Lord said, "But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead?" Part of the "works" is service to our fellowman, to our community, to our family. How about serving someone today?

Dallen, Lauren, and Austin

From left to right is Dallen, Lauren, and Austin when they visited Scott in Monterey.
What beautiful kids they are! Bobie and I got to talk to them and say hello via the WebCam. We miss them and can't wait to see them on Christmas!

Soccer Season is Over

The soccer season is over. Bobie scored the last goal of the game. There were only seconds left in the game. The ball was sitting at the corner of the opponents goal and all the players stopped playing thinking that the time was up. As Bobie told me, " Mom, I saw the goalie's wings were up and I knew it was still a "live" ball so I kicked it in before she could pick it up." It was an extra special goal because she was the only one in the team who had not scored a goal all season. She played her heart out but she just couldn't get it in. The team was sooooo happy for her and the parents and coaches were so proud. We had a Bowling party for the team that afternoon. Pizza and cake! What a combination.
The kids had a great time! Thanks to Coaches Gabe and Preston. They were outstanding!

County Fair contestants

Bobie's entries! e the cute little pig tail!
We love doing activities together. Sometimes we fight about opinion, style, and taste but we either compromise or agree to disagree.

County Fair Rooster: 8 NOV 2005

This is the rooster she enterd in the farm animal contest. We only spent about 20-30 minutes on this one but it one First Place! Go figure.

Pig contest at the County Fair

Bobie had a County Fair at school today. She entered her pig Wilbur in the pig contest.
We probably worked 3 hours on it. The decorating of the 1 gallon Canola Oil jug was all her idea. Including the gluing of about a hundred pink squares unto the body in a paper mache fashion. The curly tail was my idea!
Notice the blue ribbon! She was a winner!

Happy is what we are! And we intend to keep it that way! I love you Scottie!

"An ideal marriage is a true partnership between two imperfect people, each striving to complement the other, to keep the commandments, and to do the will of the Lord." - Elder Russell M. Nelson (Ensign, May 1999, 39)

My Soccer Girl

Ready for the game, Mom! I got her into soccer for the experience but she's really learned to love the game. She loves her coaches and her team mates. The experience has taught her so much about working together towards a common goal. (No pun intended!) I am so proud of her dedication to the team, positive sportsmanship and desire to do only her best. What else can a mother ask for? That's my girl! Posted by Picasa

A coincidence or fate? Bobie was assigned her Daddy's number, #3. She also has his sense of athleticism, thank goodness! Posted by Picasa

Bobie's soccer team on opening day. One of my duties as the Team Soccer Mom was to make the team banner...not bad for an amateur artist, huh?  Posted by Picasa

Crisologo-Espiritu

Cris, Mommy, Ace, Lil'leth, Omar and Ijay! Posted by Picasa

While in Las Vegas, Bobie wanted to spend most of her time at the Orleans Casino, specifically at "Kids Time" that her "Ola" (short for Grandma or Lola) manages. Bobie claims that her grandmother has the greatest job in the world! Having to be stuck with a superdooper kids center filled with toys, slides, a giant jungle gym, video games and snacks galore would be appealing to an eight year old. Posted by Picasa

Scott and Bobie. As you can see, they both look nervous and excited. We're so proud of Bobie! Posted by Picasa

This is Bobie on her way to her baptism. I am so proud of her. Being baptized in the Church of Jesus Christ Latter Day Saints is important for my family as it is our goal to follow Heavenly Fathers plan. Only five years ago, I was one who feared praying for often I felt that God does not hear me. Now, having accepted the gospel of Jesus Christ and knowing that he lives, I cannot imagine how I survived without him. I am very pleased to say that Bobie is now growing in a home where we strive to live a Christlike life of service, love, sacrfice, faith, hope, and obedience to our Heavenly Father.Posted by Picasa
